If
you wish to see a doctor, please book an appointment
with your preferred doctor. If he/she is unavailable (on
leave, fully booked etc.) you will be offered an appointment with an
alternative doctor. Please see details of your own doctor's
surgery time table and availability by viewing the page containing
the doctor's personal details (Information>Doctors>your doctor).
We
have two categories of appointments, to allow us to comply with the
Government's 48 hour access policy:
Advance booking: Appointments may be booked up to four weeks
in advance. These are for routine, non-urgent matters.
We offer a number evening appointments for patients who find it hard
to attend the surgery during normal opening hours. These are
for routine matters and can be booked in advance.
Same
day appointments: These are, primarily, intended for those who
need to be seen more urgently although, if space allows, routine
appointments can be booked. You will need to telephone on the
day of the appointment. If no appointments are left and you
feel you have an urgent problem which will not wait until the next
available appointment, you must inform the receptionist and a time
will be found for you to see the doctor. It is possible that
this will be at the end of a booked surgery and you may need to wait
to be seen.
To
book an appointment to see a practice nurse, please
telephone the above number. Generally, it is not possible to
specify a particular nurse as their availabilities vary and who you
see will depend, to some extent, on what service you need. For
example, our hypertension clinic is run by only two of our practice
nurses. Please indicate to the receptionist what service you
need at the time of booking.
Appointments for certain services, such as minor surgery,
coil fitting, medical examinations for licences or insurance etc.
need to be booked for specific times and you will need to advise the
receptionist of your requirement at the time of booking.
Unfortunately, if you do not and attend a normal surgery
appointment, it may not be possible to carry out the service you
want through lack of time and the necessary preparation. For
minor surgery and coil fitting, it will be necessary for you
to have discussed matters with the appropriate doctor at an earlier
surgery appointment.
If you are unable to keep an appointment that you have booked,
please telephone the surgery to cancel, in good time, so that the
appointment can be offered to someone else. A
significant number of appointments are lost through a failure to
attend.
If
you wish to speak to your doctor, except for urgent
matters, please consult his/her telephone availability by looking
the page containing the doctor's personal details
(Information>Doctors>your doctor). The telephone number to
call to speak to a doctor is the main telephone number: 01284
701601, or 0844 4773921 for the Barrow branch. It may be necessary for the receptionist to take your
details and ask the doctor to call you back when he/she is
available.
If
you wish to speak to a nurse, call our main telephone
number: 01284 701601, or 0844 4773921 for the Barrow branch, and the receptionist will try to connect
you to a nurse. However, if she is attending a patient, it
will be necessary for the receptionist to take your telephone number
and ask the nurse to call you back. Our main surgery practice nurses are
unavailable between 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm (please see the above
opening hours for the Barrow branch).
